2009 AMIA Summit on Translational Bioinformatics
Thank you for making the 2nd AMIA Summit on Translational Bioinformatics a Success!
The 2009 AMIA Summit on Translational Bioinformatics, held in San Francisco on March 15-17, 2009, reported a 10% increase in attendance over last year’s meeting. Given the current condition of the economy and many associations showing a decrease in meeting attendance, it is a very positive sign that attendees recognized the value of the Summit and chose to attend.
“We are very pleased with the increase in attendance from our first annual AMIA summit,” commented Don E Detmer, AMIA President and CEO. “This validates our educational offering and the growing interest as well as importance of translational bioinformatics in biomedical research, genetics, education, and diagnostic and therapeutic discovery.”
Keynote sessions included Lynn H. Vogel, Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center leading the opening session; Dr. Andrea Califano, Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University, Director of the Center for the Multiscale Analysis of Genetic Networks (MAGNet), Associate Director for Bioinformatics of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC), and co-Director of the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, presenting Using Cancer Interactome for Therapeutic Target and Associated Biomarker Discovery, and closing session by Dr. Russ Altman, Professor and Chair of Bioengineering, Professor of Medicine, Genetics, and Computer Science (by courtesy), Stanford University, and Principal Investigator of Simbios, one of the National Centers for Biomedical Computing, discussing Translational Bioinformatics – Year In Review.
